Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 22 (May 24, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Dale E. Boyd (ASN: 0-447698), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during World War II. While brilliantly leading his men in an assault upon a strong enemy position, Lieutenant Boyd exposed himself to direct enemy fire and skillfully coordinated his platoon’s advance. His keen tactical judgment was directly responsible for the severe casualties inflicted upon the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
