Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 59 (October 14, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Anthony Wolfe (ASN: 6138124), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Battery, 33d Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, on or about 10 July 1943. When enemy aircraft strafed a beach and seriously wounded a soldier, Sergeant Wolfe left his place of cover, proceeded to the injured man, and covered him with his own body while he rendered medical treatment. He then carried the wounded man to a place of safety where further treatment could be given. Staff Sergeant Wolfe’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
