Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 56 (October 6, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Albert Voca (ASN: 37269324), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, during July and August 1943. When an extremely heavy enemy barrage severed communications lines between a forward observation post and his battalion command post, Private Voca proceeded to the observation post under heavy fire and obtained information regarding the location of casualties. His high devotion to duty inspired the men he served. One Voca’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
