Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 65 (November 26, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Albert H. Schneider (ASN: 6837726), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily during the period from July through October 1943. Throughout a bitterly fought engagement with the enemy, First Sergeant Schneider continually exposed himself to the full intensity of enemy fire to insure that ammunition and water were available to his men. When a strong enemy tank attack broke through our lines, Sergeant Schneider, by his skillful leadership under fire and disregard for danger, reorganized his men and routed the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
