Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 45 (September 6, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Clinton W. Rodquist (ASN: 37021510), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery A, 33d Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily in July 1943. When enemy tanks threatened to break through our front lines to supply points near the beach, Sergeant Rodquist moved his gun to an exposed forward position under heavy enemy fire and engaged the advancing tanks with direct fire. His action contributed materially to the destruction of several tanks and compelled the withdrawal of he remainder. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
