The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Katsuyoshi Maesaha (ASN: RA-30110859), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 19 May 1951, near Pungam-ni, Korea, a fire accidentally started in an ammunition trailer of Company B. After throwing dirt to extinguish the blaze, Corporal Maesaha drove a jeep attached to the smoking trailer into an open area. He also moved an adjacent vehicle away from the flames, preventing the spread of the dangerous fire. The imminent danger that the ammunition might explode made Corporal Maesaha’s performance of duty extremely hazardous. The voluntary heroism displayed by Corporal Maesaha reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
