Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 33 (July 26, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class John Majewski (ASN: 12009407), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from February through July. During an advance on enemy positions, heavy fire from a machine gun forced Private Majewski’s platoon to seek cover. Private Majewski crawled across an area covered by small arms fire and silenced the enemy emplacement with hand grenades. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
