The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Melvin A. Larson (ASN: 36222953), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to May 1943. Although subjected to direct enemy artillery, machine gun and mortar fire during an attack upon the enemy, Private Larson administered medical treatment and assisted in the evacuation of the wounded.
