The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Sergeant] Floyd C. Koch (ASN: 6853478), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Anti-Tank Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily in 1943. When his company’s advance was impeded by heavy machine gun fire, Sergeant Koch fearlessly led his anti-tank gun section over rugged mountainous terrain and destroyed the enemy. His bold action and tactical skill enabled his company to accomplish its mission. Staff Sergeant Koch’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
