Manville (AFSN: AO-765290), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a B-29 Superfortress Bomber of the 345th Bombardment Squadron, 98th Bombardment Group, FIFTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the Korea, on 26 June 1951. During a bombing mission over North Korea, Captain Manville’s Superfortress Bomber was attacked by enemy MiG fighters, knocking out two of its four engines, and ground fire knocked out another. The electrical system was damaged, a fuel tank was punctured, and the lower aft gun turret was shot away. With great skill and determination, Captain Manville was able to remain airborne with only one engine, and brought his bomber safely back to its base in South Korea. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Manville, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
