Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), General Orders No. 11730 (July 2, 1970)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Fourth Class Thomas Henry Goldsworthy, United States Army, for gallantry in action during a ground attack in Rang Rang, Republic of Cambodia on 14 June 1970 while he assigned with A Company, 13th Signal Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division (Air Mobile). Specialist Four Goldsworthy distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as radio relay team chief at Fire Support Base David, Cambodia. He ran through intense mortar and rocket fire to the threatened east side of the base and began to place effective fire on the enemy who had already captured several bunker positions. After sealing off the enemy penetration with his effective fire and attending to the wounded, he moved forward in the face of the enemy rocket, mortar and small arms fire to the positions captured by the enemy. He moved to the point blank range killing several of the enemy and forcing the remainder to flee from the bunker. He then manned a recaptured position as more men arrived at the position. Specialist Goldsworthy repeatedly exposed himself to offer encouragement and guidance throughout the remainder of the night and was instrumental in repulsing the enemy attack. His gallantry in action was in keeping with the highest tradition of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the US Army.
