(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade John B. Johnson (ASN: 35276011), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 70th Tank Battalion, II Corps, in action against the enemy in North Africa in 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade John B. Johnson (ASN: 35276011), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 70th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily in July and August 1943. When his tank company was subjected to a heavy barrage of artillery fire, Corporal Johnson proceeded in his tank three miles beyond this point. From this position, he was able to observe the accuracy of our artillery fire and by relaying this information, was instrumental in destroying several anti-tank guns as well as dispersing enemy infantry. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
