The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to First Sergeant James Aaron Yocum, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 1 October 1997 to 30 September 2007 in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating as the First Sergeant of the Defense Information School, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. First Sergeant Yocum showed a tremendous ability to work across the entire staff of civilians, officers, enlisted, and contractors to resolve key issues. During his distinguished career he influenced and motivated his subordinates and peers to the highest degree of excellence. His caring, committed leadership produced dedicated, mission-focused, combat-ready Soldiers. His superior performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the Department of Defense.
