After graduating from Evangel College and then earning an MBA from the University of Arkansas, Vernon Clark attended Officer Candidate School and received his commission in August 1968. From July 21, 2000 to July 22, 2005, Admiral Clark served as the Navy’s 27th Chief of Naval Operations. His 5-year tenure is the 2d longest of any CNO, after only the 6-year tenure of Admiral Arleigh Burke.
