Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, General Orders No. 18 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Edward P. Weathers, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division, in action at Lorengau, Manus Island, Admiralty Group, in March 1944. When the larger unit of which Sergeant Weathers platoon was a part was held up in an advance against enemy fortifications, his platoon effected a flanking movement across an open airstrip and suffered casualties from enemy fire from concealed pillboxes. With cool courage and complete disregard of the enemy, he abandoned the temporary safety of a prone and concealed position to cross an exposed area, and brought a wounded comrade to safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
