The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Arthur G. Krug, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 820th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 97th Infantry Division, in action on 16 April 1945, in Germany. On 16 April 1945, Sergeant Krug commanded the leading tank destroyer attack on the town of Burscheid, Germany. In this attack Sergeant Krug directed the fire of the 76-mm. gun of his destroyer and operated the 50 caliber machine gun from the open turret until seriously wounded in the neck by enemy fire. Despite his wounds he continued to lead the tank destroyers past road blocks and enemy fire into the town. His gallantry on this occasion reflects high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
