Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 565 (August 22, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Delmar F. Lybarger (ASN: 37692990), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 12 April 1945, in the vicinity of Lampoldshausen, Germany. When the platoon became pinned down by enemy machine gun fire while attacking on a forward slope of a hill, Sergeant Lybarger, picking up a light machine gun and firing from the hip, enabled another man to take position and destroy the enemy machine gun emplacement. He then, upon returning to a nearby road, crawled one hundred yards under sniper fire to carry a wounded aid man to safety. This was accomplished after two men had been wounded in attempting to rescue the wounded aid man. The outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Lybarger reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
