Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 247 (June 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Frank C. Rose (ASN: 0-2007037), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 9 April 1945, in the vicinity of Stein, Germany. When enemy fire had caused all assigned officers and many key enlisted men to become casualties, Lieutenant Rose assumed command of the company and reorganized it for an attack, which he personally led, to capture the company objective. Lieutenant Rose’s determination, courage, and professional ability inspired his men and were directly responsible for the successful execution of the company mission. His conspicuous gallantry and outstanding leadership under fire are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
