The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Floyd L. Edsall (ASN: 0-555952), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 3 March 1945, in the vicinity of Hartungshof, Germany. Lieutenant Edsall went to the rescue of a seriously wounded man who was under intense enemy fire and successfully carried him through heavy enemy fire to a place of safety. This officer’s outstanding gallantry is in accord with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
