The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private First Class] Frank J. Dyker (ASN: 39249144), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 30 January 1945, in the vicinity of Jebsheim, France. During an intense mortar and artillery barrage, Sergeant Dyer was severely wounded in the neck by shell fragments. While on his way to obtain first aid, he observed the barrage falling near his squad. Disregarding his wound, he returned to his squad and courageously directed its fire until certain that they were secure, receiving another would while so doing. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
