The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Glenis E. Binion (ASN: RA-15378276), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Korea. On 25 July 1950, near Sangyang, Korea, the enemy made repeated attempts to enter and overrun the defensive position which Corporal Binion held as forward observer. The capture of this ridge would have meant breach of the regimental position and loss of a large number of troops. On each successive attack, Corporal Binion, with great calm and determination and without regard for his personal safety, although exposed to enemy small arms and artillery fire called for a barrage of mortar fire on his position to evict the enemy. He remained at his post for a total of ninety-six hours without relief and under severe enemy fire to repel numerous attacks. His outstanding bravery and heroism were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
