The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Sergeant Tracy A. Irwin, United States Air Force, for heroism involving risk of life in Bogot‡, Columbia, South America, on 17 November 1990. While returning from a sight-seeing tour Sergeant Irwin and three Air Force members were attacked by four armed assailants. With complete disregard for her personal safety, she wrestled away from her would-be assailant and assisted her companions in resisting the other attackers. As a result of her actions, the lives of four Air Force members were saved. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Irwin reflect great credit upon herself and the United States Air Force.
