After serving as an enlisted gunner in a bomber in the Army Air Forces in World War II, Thomas Sadler left the service after the war to attend the University of Alabama. He returned to service in the new U.S. Air Force in 1948 and was commissioned through the Aviation Cadet Program He retired in 2983 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
