    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Duane William Rice (AFSN: FV-3034642), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-100D Pilot near Tay Ninh, Republic of Vietnam, on 1 April 1967. On that date, he flew in support of friendly ground forces who were engaged in extremely close contact with opposing forces. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Major Rice made repeated low level attacks through hostile fire and delivered his ordnance with outstanding accuracy. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Rice reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Duane William Rice (AFSN: FV-3034642), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Tuy Hoa Air Base, Vietnam, in action near Bong Son, Republic of Vietnam on the night of 24 March 1967. On that date, Major Rice flew his F-100 aircraft in support of friendly ground forces engaged with hostile ground forces. Despite the intense ground fire, the delivering of ordnance in mountainous terrain, with friendly forces in close proximity, and under the cover of darkness, Major Rice with undaunted determination, indomitable courage, and professional skill made devastating attacks against the hostile positions. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Rice has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
