Under the provisions of Department of Defense 1348.33-M, the Secretary of Defense has awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal to Brigadier General Julius Frank Johnson, United States Army, for exceptionally superior service to the Department of Defense. The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Julius Frank Johnson, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States from October 1983 to September 1993, culminating as Commander, First Region, United States Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadet Command. General Johnson provided the excellence in training required for future Army leaders. General Johnson’s efforts in the expansion of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program will ensure it will continue to grow and provide exceptional training for the youth of America. General Johnson’s dedicated efforts produced a stronger command, better structured and focused on meeting the requirements of the Total Army for its future officer leadership and providing thousands of young Americans the opportunity to become better citizens through the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program. General Johnson brought to the First Region his view that training was absolutely fundamental to everything the Army does and applied his expert skills as a trainer to the Reserve Officer Training Corps leader development. Brigadier General Johnson’s distinguished leadership and superb contributions to the Army and the nation reflect great credit on him and the United States Army.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Infantry) Julius Frank Johnson, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in action against an armed enemy in the Republic of Vietnam in 1967. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
