    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant James M. McNulty, Jr., United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a P-38 Lightning Fighter Airplane of the 50th Fighter Squadron, 342d Composite Group, EIGHTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the North Atlantic Area, on 24 April 1943. On that date, a German Ju 88 on a reconnaissance mission over Iceland was intercepted by Second Lieutenant James McNulty and Second Lieutenant Harry Stengle, a few miles east of Gar_skagi, and shot down in aerial combat. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant McNulty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
