Joe Bartlett graduated from the Capitol Page School in 1944, and promptly enlisted in the USMC. He was serving at Headquarters, Department of the Pacific, San Francisco, CA, when WWII ended. Upon returning to the Capitol, he was selected to be Chief of the Pages. He retired as a U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Brigadier General and through his reserve status served in various capacities on Capitol Hill.
