The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Alexander K. Davidson, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Davidson distinguished himself as Deputy Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Plans, and Director of Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations, Headquarters United States Air Force, Washington, District of Columbia, from 7 July 1983 to 9 March 1987. In addition, General Davidson made important contributions to the operation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as the Air Force’s Deputy Operations Deputy. In these important assignments, his exemplary leadership, consistently accurate foresight, and ceaseless efforts contributed immeasurably to the readiness, capability, and survivability of our combat forces. His performance strengthened relationships between the United States military services and invigorated the tactical and strategic arms of the United States’ defense posture, thus increasing the security of the free world. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Davidson reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
