After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, Emmitt Cassady transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. His brother George S. Cassady retired as an Air Force Brigadier General in 1961, and Emmitt Cassady retired in 1965 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
