    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Sheldon Jerome Lustig, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Lustig distinguished himself as Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineering and Services, Headquarters United States Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, from 15 August 1980 to 31 May 1983. In this important assignment, the forceful leadership and dedicated efforts of General Lustig were uniquely responsible for the manifold increases in readiness capability of Air Force engineering and services forces in the European Theater. And for the vast improvements in mission support and quality of life facilities brought about through vigorous construction and modernization programs. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Lustig culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

In this important assignment, the leadership, exemplary foresight, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by General Lustig resulted in significant contributions to the effectiveness and success of Engineering and Services programs within the Strategic Air Command. The superior initiative, outstanding leadership, and personal endeavor displayed by General Lustig reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
