Navy Federal Credit Union

David Jones enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1943 and served briefly as a rescue pilot in the FIFTH Air Force late in the war. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947, flying combat missions in the Korean War where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. From 1974 to 1978 he served as the 9th Chief of Staff of the Air Force, following which he was appointed the 9th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, serving in the top military post until his retirement in 1982 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
