Robert Huyser was drafted into military service in World War II, and received his commission and wings in the Army Air Forces. After World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947, flying combat missions in the Korean War. He retired in 1981 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
