Charles Hamm graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1956. From 1964 to 1966, General Hamm was a member of the Air Force air demonstration squadron, the THUNDERBIRDS, and subsequently served a tour of combat duty in Vietnam. From 1987 to 1991 he served as the 11th Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs. He retired in 1991 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General.
