Wesley Rice enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1951, after graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute the previous year. He was commissioned in 1952 through the Officer Candidate Screening Course having attained the enlisted rank of sergeant. He retired as a United States Marine Corps Major General in 1988.
