The Secretary of the Army of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Army Commendation Medal with Combat “V” to Staff Sergeant Roger C. Kersey, United States Army, for meritorious achievement as Team Sergeant, Civil Affairs Team Alpha 11, Combined/Joint Task Force-180, on 2 February 2003 while deployed to Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Staff Sergeant Kersey’s heroic actions contributed greatly to the mission’s success. Under hostile fire, his decisive actions allowed the team to continue with its mission. His courageous performance of duty in a combat zone reflects great credit upon him, the Combined/Joint Task Force-180, and the United States Central Command.
