The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Major George K. Acker (MCSN: 0-9062), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving with the FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea from 9 December 1952 to 3 November 1953. Serving as adjutant of an Artillery Regiment and later as Division Adjutant, Major Acker displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence and fearless leadership in the execution of his duties. As adjutant of an artillery regiment, he adeptly organized the personnel administrative procedures in such a manner as to increase the efficiency of the section to a marked degree. His conscientious efforts and excellent cooperative spirit aided immeasurably in the successful administration sustained by the division. A persevering, resourceful and exceptionally commendable officer, Major Acker’s exemplary conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
