Verne McCaul was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1925 after graduating from the North Dakota Agricultural College. From December 1, 1957 to January 1, 1960, he served as the 7th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and retired as a U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant General.
