The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Jack A. Weatherford, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a CH-3E Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 26 November 1970. On that date, Major Weatherford was in the number three aircraft of a helicopter formation deep in hostile territory on a mission to move friendly soldiers close to a tactical objective. Despite intensive ground fire and mortar attacks on every sortie, Major Weatherford continued to prosecute his assigned mission and contributed directly to the successful tactical deployment. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Weatherford reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
