The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Raul L. Regalado, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty while serving as first pilot in a UH-1D helicopter, performing a combat assault mission in the area of Phu Cuong, Republic of Vietnam. During his first lift into the landing zone his aircraft was hit by ground fire. Enemy shells entered the aircraft and wounded the aircraft’s commander. Remaining calm and alert, he continued to fly the aircraft into the landing zone. On lift off, it was observed that another aircraft had been shot down. Without hesitation Regalado volunteered his aircraft for the rescue and completed a successful recovery. He performed his duties with courage, professionalism and determination, displaying his skills as a pilot and his actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit himself, his unit and the United States Army.
