The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Ronald H. Mikulski, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight aerial flight as a CH-3C pilot in Southeast Asia on 6 November 1966. On that date, Lieutenant Mikulski’s crew performed and emergency recovery of a special reconnaissance team from an area heavily infested with hostile forces. The team had come into contact with hostile forces and an immediate recovery was necessary before deteriorating weather completely eliminated recovery chances. The poor weather conditions precluded fighter cover for the mission, and forced the helicopter to be dangerously exposed throughout the mission. Lieutenant Mikulski’s courageous action and outstanding airmanship were instrumental in saving the lives of the valuable combat team. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Mikulski reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
