The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel John A. McNett, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the Electronic Warfare Officer of an unarmed, unescorted EB-66 over Southeast Asia on 16 June 1972. On that date, while in support of a major heavy bomber strike deep in hostile territory, his aircraft came under attack by effective aerial defensive systems. By swift and accurate application of electrical and mechanical countermeasures, he was able to successfully neutralize these defensive systems preventing possible losses to the strike and support forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel McNett reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
