The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain John A. McCurdy, United States Air Force, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against an opposing armed force on 1 March 1966. On that date, Captain McCurdy was the element leader in a flight of F-105 Thunderchiefs. Although faced with extremely adverse weather conditions; thunderstorms, low ceilings, and restricted visibility, as well as hostile fire, Captain McCurdy achieved the destruction of four tanks that were being utilized against friendly forces. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain McCurdy reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
