The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Giles H. McCubbin, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while serving as a lead navigator operating special equipment for group and squadron formations on heavy bombardment missions against the enemy, Lieutenant McCubbin demonstrated exceptional proficiency in guiding his formations to the assigned targets in devastating attacks against Bremen, Germany, 12 October 1944; Merseburg, Germany, 2 November 1944; and Dollenbergon, Germany, 1 January 1945, despite heavy anti-aircraft fire on each occasion. The exceptional navigational skill displayed by Lieutenant McCubbin on these occasions in the face of many obstacles reflects the highest credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.
