The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Carl E. Hudson, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130B Flight Engineer at Bu Dop Airfield, Republic of Vietnam, on 14 November 1969. On that date, Sergeant Hudson flew a combat essential mission into this austere forward airfield. Immediately after landing touchdown a propeller failed to reverse and the aircraft started to leave the runway. Sergeant Hudson immediately diagnosed and corrected the problem, thus saving the aircraft and the crew and allowing successful completion of the mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Hudson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
