The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Master Sergeant Davis L. Goodman, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Airborne Controller aboard the Seventh Air Force Airborne Battlefield Command and Control Center aircraft near Mu Gia Pass, North Vietnam on 20 February 1967. On that date, Sergeant Goodman determined that a large hostile truck convoy was moving southward along a well foliaged road toward friendly forces. He immediately contacted all friendly aircraft within range. Then, with outstanding skill, judgment and initiative, he remained at his station in constant orbit over hostile territory positioning, controlling, and directing sorties against the hostile convoys. During this highly critical and complex operation, Sergeant Goodman brought in tankers and positioned them for immediate refueling and recycling of aircraft insuring continuous support for the friendly forces against the hostile forces. This singular achievement contributed greatly to the destruction of many vehicles, secondary explosions, large fires and inflicting numerous casualties among the hostile forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Goodman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
