The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain David P. Enloe, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52D Electronic Warfare Officer, 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand, on 19 March 1971. On that date, Captain Enloe’s aircraft was engaged in an attack on an important enemy troop concentration and supply area in southeastern Laos. With only seconds remaining before bomb release, Captain Enloe detected a strong hostile surface-to-air missile radar signal, followed almost immediately by a guidance signal indicating a missile launch was in progress. He immediately applied electronic countermeasures and directed evasive maneuvers during the attack. His timely actions enabled the crew to successfully evade six surface-to-air missiles and withdraw from the threat area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Enloe reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
