The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Two (CW-2) Robert A. Caprara, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 26 February 1991 while serving as Pilot in Command of a UH-60 aircraft, H Company, 1st Aviation Regiment, during Operation Desert Storm in Southwest Asia. Chief Warrant Officer Caprara displayed valor in the face of the enemy while engaged in aerial flight during combat operations. Chief Warrant Officer Caprara’s aircraft was conducting the aerial extraction of two Special Forces Reconnaissance Teams of the 3rd Special Forces Group, whose positions had been compromised, sixty kilometers into enemy held territory. Though faced with the imminent danger of a rapidly closing enemy force, he continued the mission and saved the Special Forces Team from certain capture. Chief Warrant Officer Two Caprara’s distinguished duty performance reflects great credit upon him, the 1st Armored Division and the United States Army.
