The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Gordon S. Brown, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while serving as co-pilot of a B-17 airplane on twenty-five heavy bombardment missions over enemy occupied Continental Europe. Displaying outstanding airmanship and skillfully assisting his pilot, Lieutenant Brown’s actions have been a contributing factor to the success of each of these missions, among which were the operations over Wilhelmshaven, Germany, 3 November 1944. The courage, coolness, and skill displayed by Lieutenant Brown on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
