Commander in Chief, Pacific: Serial 35265 (September 20, 1945)

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Frank Degliequi (MCSN: 800451), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Group Leader in a Marine Rifle Platoon, serving with Company C, First Battalion, Twenty-Fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, from 20 to 28 February 1945. Threatened by entrenched Japanese who were about to fire upon his unit and disrupt the establishment of friendly defense lines, Corporal Degliequi advanced alone to a position from which he killed one of the enemy and forced the others to withdraw. Pressing his attack with hand grenades, he held ground against an answering hostile onslaught until joined by friendly riflemen and, charging upon the hostile stronghold, he and his men demolished the remaining enemy, thereby securing the area for their platoon. A capable leader, Corporal Degliequi served with unwavering devotion to duty and valiant fighting spirit until fatally wounded on 28 February. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
