The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) to Sergeant George Eugene Brogna (MCSN: 378475), United States Marine Corps, for heroism on 21 November 1943, while attached to Marine Aircraft Group FOURTEEN in the Solomon Islands area. Sergeant Brogna flung himself with complete disregard of his own safety on a comrade whose gasoline-soaked clothing was afire, and after throwing him to the ground, ripped his blazing garments from him, thus by his promptness and presence of mind averting extreme injury and possible death. Sergeant Brogna has displayed coolness and courage in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
